Igniting Minds Hara Hai Toh Bhara Hai, A Green India Challenge has taken upon itself to address causes that are socially relevant and tries to mobilise mass participation of the people to make the society a better place to live in. The iconic leader, former President of India, the missile man, Bharat Ratna Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s death anniversary falls on 27th July. As a fitting tribute Igniting Minds have decided to launch this global movement on this day and dedicate it to the visionary who strived for the betterment of humanity.

Planting of trees has been universally recognized as an important tool to combat climate change and air pollution and under your dynamic leadership; India will lead the world in the restoration of the green cover.

This initiative, launched in Hyderabad on the 27th of July 2018, the 4th death anniversary of the ‘People’s President’ has already seen the participation of millions of people across the globe.

We have been blessed to have the support of the Vice President of India, His Excellency Shri Venkaiah Naidu ji, Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar, Padma Vibushan Ramoji Rao, Padma Bhushan Pullela Gopichand, Padma Bhushan Saina Nehwal, Padma Bhushan Chiranjeevi, the Forest Man of India Padma Shri Jadav Payeng, Padma Shri PV Sindhu, Padma Shri VVS Laxman, and many other prominent citizens.

Some very shocking facts have been noticed and the planet is sending us warning signals. Are we listening?

The forest cover is fast depleting. 10,000 years back 45% of the earth (60,000 lakh hectares) was covered with trees.

Today, it has come down to just 31% (40,000 lakh hectares). We are cutting 200 sq. kms of forest every day.

In the last 10 years alone, we have been losing 5.2 million hectares of forests per year!

What is #GreenIndiaChallenge, why 3 plants per person ?

  1. Oxygen consumption by us: We breathe 7-8 lts of air per minute.
  2. That means 11000 lts of per day (Approx).
  3. Oxygen in the inhaled air is: 20%
  4. Oxygen in the exhaled air is: 15%
  5. We use only 5% of Oxygen in every inhalation. That means we use 550 lts of Oxygen per day.
  6. 550 lts of Oxygen = 785.95 gms or 0.78 kgs.
  7. We use 0.78 Kgs of Oxygen per day.
  8. That means 284.70 Kgs per year, say 285 lts.1 Kg of Oxygen is Rs 1300/-.285 Kgs of Oxygen cost is Rs 3,70,500/-. We use Rs 3.70 lacks of Oxygen in a year freely given by nature.
  9. One average tree can give 100 kgs of Oxygen per year.

We need to plant at least 3 trees in our life time to compensate our usage of Oxygen from mother earth.

The grim fact is that slowly but surely, we are choking ourselves and the life on earth to extinction.

We can still undo the damage by planting trees and nurturing them.

Let us make India a green India by planting trees. It is our tribute to the People president, Bharat Ratna Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam and a gift to the future generations.Igniting Minds – ‘Hara Hai Toh Bhara Hai, Green India Challenge!’

What is the challenge?

  1. Plant 3 trees in your locality within 10 days. Nurture them for 3 years. Take a selfie and post it. (http://www.ignitingminds.in/igm-challenge-accepted.php)
  2. Throw a challenge to 3 to 5 of your acquaintances to do the same. And the chain continues.
  3. The trees so planted are geotagged and will be kept under watch for the next 3 years.

Hara hai Toh Bhara Hai is a fun way of reversing the damage caused by deforestation.

  • Every person who accepts challenge and plant 3 saplings will honoured as Vanamali.
  • Every person who nurtures the plants for three years successfully is Vanamitra
  • Every person who leads the region is Vanaraja and the best in the state is Vana Samrat.

Let it be our tribute to Dr. Kalam and a gift to the nation
