Science was just a regular subject to me till class 6th when we were introduced to the science fairs. I participated in Children Science congress in science quiz where I couldn’t bag a prize but a lot of inspiration, curiosity and interest in science. My determination was many folds increased the year later when our team won a prize at state level. With the guidance of my mother, elder brother and my science teacher I started working on solutions for the environmental problems in form of project reports. I worked a lot in the field of hydro power projects, sustainable energy, traffic solution for Manali town etc. till class 10th when I won the overall best project report running trophy of the state and represented Himachal Pradesh at National level for “an alternation Design of Hydro Power Projects”.


This was the first time I met many eminent scientists like Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Dr. Yashpal and their memory still mesmerizes me. At NCSC, I won a quiz on nuclear physics by BARC-Trombay. Later I received the INSPIRE award that year and worked on an Eco Friendly Kiln or the state level model Exhibition.


I belong to a family involved in apple production like 18,000 other families in our block of district. The quality and quantity of apple crop depends upon the pollination that takes place in the orchard in March-April during apple flowering. Since Manali has really cold winters, we have very few honey bees for pollination and we resort on many techniques to improve pollination. Methods like hand pollination and flow.

Once, when I was just picking mustard from my grandma’s garden a honeybee stung me on my cheek and it was swollen like a tomato. I asked my mom, who is a school principal for the reason of presence of honeybees in the garden and not in orchards?


She told me that yellow is the favorite color of honeybees and my mind was ignited with idea of clubbing the mustard with the apple crop as both of them have the same flowering period. I convinced my uncle to try patterns of mustard planting in his orchards and after a lot of efforts he agreed finally.
In board matriculation exam I scored 100/100 in science and decided to pursue Non- medical science in the Government Senior Secondary School-Manali. I got the results of apple-mustard plantation as 25% increase in the apple crop and this revolutionary project made me win the gold medal at IRIS National Science Fair and represent India at Intel International Science and Engineering Fair-2014 held at Los Angeles, California and among 1,800 participants from 80 countries I bagged two prizes for our country. I was the only student from a government school to achieve that and also the only one from Himachal Pradesh. Later, I became the Youngest Himachali to hold a copyright and was appreciated by district administration on Independence Day and Women’s day.


The idea of planting mustard with apple is beneficiary in many ways, mustard is edible and extra cash crop for farmers it also becomes green manure if we don’t pluck it off. With the success our responsibility to the society increases and thus I started mentoring and guiding other students to pursue science passionately. I used to mentor the projects of other students and help them with their studies overall and that’s how I started my NGO-Mangaldaayak for the promotion of girls in the field of science and their overall welfare. Through Mangaldaayak, we conduct workshops in different schools and try to promote science in different ways. These activities have been very fruitful and also been appreciated.


Recently, I am enrolled in National Institute of Technology-Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh in the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering. My passion for research has elevated with my higher studies and I have been the Youngest Participant of Young Scientists Conclave of India International Science Fair- 2016 and presented my two projects there. Later in 2017, I was the youngest participant at 4th National Conference of Innovations in Indian Science, Engineering and Technology with focus of Rural Housing where I presented my project “A reliable alternative solution for power supply during rainy season power cuts in hilly regions.”


Also, I am working on a project for amateur trekker’s safety- Quick rescue and safety from wild animals, this project is funded from Department of Science and Technology- Govt. of India. Apart from this, in my field of Academics, I am working on Carrier aggregation in LTE and Wi-Fi in Unlicensed Spectrum for 5G systems.


I feel really blessed and honored on receiving the National Youth Award 2015-16 from the ministry of youth affairs and sports. Throughout this journey, my mother has been my prime motivation and my biggest supporter at all times. What I am today, this National Youth Award, I dedicate it all to her.
Besides science and research, I have been national Player of Snow Skiing, a blue belt in Goju Ryu Karate, mountaineer and enjoy painting and poetry.
