How To Prepare For An Admission Interview?

Date of Publish - Tuesday, 19th March 2019

Wow! You have been called for an interview in the college you were dreaming of? But is that it? Was it so easy? Your dream university is just a step away now and obviously you can’t afford to mess up right now. Stay confident and read through these tips just in case:

  • Know what kind of interview can take place

The first thing you need to know about the interviews is that they can be both evaluative and informative. An evaluative will have a more serious aura and you may be asked some serious questions to test your capability to be in that university. The other kind of interview could be informative; this is more like a casual interaction where both the parties are kind of impressing the other one. The interview may have a pinch of both though.

  • Think how are you unique

The university officers are going to interview so many people so why should they even remember you. You must know what makes you unique and you need to let them know about that so, they remember you; for the good of course.

  • Read your SOP and admission essay again

Some interviewers have that habit of viewing through your SOP or admission essays along with. They may ask you anything you have mentioned that may catch their attention. That’s why honesty is needed. So, always go through them before stepping in the interview hall.

  • Re read the course information

The officers might be interested in knowing why you are into that particular subject, that particular course and you should have an answer to that. so go through all the course details and clear your doubts during the interview if you have any, you should be interactive. Just read the course details well and don’t ask the question, answer to which is already mentioned in the brochure.

  • Plan out some answers

It’s always good to know some answers beforehand. Just check out on internet what kinds of questions are common and prepare a bit. Just make sure that it doesn’t look rehearsed and the answers should come straight away from your heart.

  • Have a practice session

If this is your first interview ever or if you are even a bit nervous, have a practice interview with your friend or a family member so you don’t get scared when the interview happens in real. You will know your mistakes and feel bit more confident.

  • Wear formals

The interview may be an informal one but your dress up speaks of your personality. First look matters and so, gear up in formal wears. Ya feel comfortable in them and they should suit you.

  • Be before time

It’s good to be at the place before time and relax yourself a bit. Get comfortable with the surroundings and prepare yourself for you interview.

  • Smile and walk in confidently

Just carry your best smile and walk in confidently for the interview. You may be feeling nervous, but putting on a smile would help a lot. You even have a reason to smile, they want you to offer an admission and so you are being interviewed. You deserve it well and so no need to be scared of it.

Just smile and give it your best shot. Good Luck
